Most of what you see was shot while Von was here. Good energy on set, and quiet with it — he let the direction lead. That can be the best way a job goes: the artist trusts you to build the thing, and they get to just be the artist.
The approach
The shot that still means the most is the girl crying as she lays the flowers on the casket. That is the one the whole video rests on.
Production
100K Management called a couple of years after Von was killed to say the video was being released, and that the remaining footage had to be shot posthumously. The gap was never the performance — most of his footage already existed. What held the release was clearance and legal.
Result
It came out three years after he died, and has since passed 21 million views.
